Low Calorie Smoothie Recipes

 Listen, I know you like your drink! Whether its beer, vodka shots or just a simple supposedly innocent Coke.  However, the one thing that all these drinks have in common is that in one way or another, they will sabotage your diet (especially the beer!).

 

Whilst lager and other drinks like sports drinks are filled with empty calories, there are other beverages that will do your metabolism a power of good.  These drinks are called smoothies.  Low calorie smoothie recipes are readily available here that will provide with an abundance of flab-busting nutritional goodness.

 One of the great things about smoothies, are that they are extremely versatile.  You can have a smoothie at any time of the day; be it morning, as a meal replacement or as a quick snack before going to bed.  They are very filling and will satisfy your hunger pangs as any normal solid meal would. 

 One of the other great things about smoothies in general is that there is no one correct way to make one.  You can add a multitude of ingredients to suit your style or needs (i.e. whether it’s heart-saving, muscle-building, brain-juicing, mood-boosting).

 As mentioned above, you can make a smoothie anyway you want to suit you, but for the base ingredients, we would recommend you follow the following steps;

-          First introduce the liquid ingredients into a blender (i.e. milk, yogurt, juice etc). 

-          To the liquid add some whey/protein powder (optional).  Whey is excellent for building lean muscle and burning fat.  Adding powder will also give more consistency to the smoothie.

-          Add the fruit mixture or/and precooked oats.

-          Add ice cubes (1-3). This will help give your smoothie more volume without the calories!

Summer Smoothie:

8-10 oz skimmed milk

115 g/4 oz watermelon, seeded and cubed

75 g strawberries

115 g low-fat natural yogurt

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder (scoop provided with purchase)

3 ice cubes

 87 calories/369 kj, 6g protein, 14g carbohydrates, 1g fat (0.5g saturated), 0.5g fiber.
