Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods
You
don’t have to be a genius to figure out what are healthy nutritious
snack foods and what are junk foods. That isn’t the problem! The
problem is that our kitchens are laden with junk foods kept in
cupboards. The temptation is always there even though we know that it
isn’t good for us.

So the first thing
that’s got to be done is to clean out all the junk snacks from your
kitchen. Simply toss away those cookies, chips and chocolates. Get
rid of those frozen foods as well like frozen pizzas and chicken
nuggets. If these foods aren’t present in your kitchen – you can’t
succumb to temptation!
Once that’s done, start filling your kitchen with healthy
nutritious snack foods. We’re talking about; varieties of fruits
and vegetable (i.e. apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, melons,
celeries, broccolis, peppers etc), whole wheat crackers/bread, low fat
cheese, nuts & almonds, rice cakes, low fat yogurts, hummus, cottage
cheese, low sugar cereals, oats etc.
One of the main complaints that often come from folk is that snacking
on healthy foods doesn’t ‘fill you up’. Yes, they may be very
healthy, but they don’t satisfy your hunger pangs the way that meat or
pizzas do. Yes, this may be true, but the great thing about healthy
snacks is that you can often consume as much as you want to the point
that you will feel full. For example, next time you feel like
snacking, eat a variety of different fruits – about as much as you
need to satisfy you. Fruits are healthy and many contain natural
sugars – and oh yeah, they’re virtually fat free as well!
Here
are some simple rules to keep in mind when planning your healthy
nutritious snack foods:
·
Balance food intake with physical activity.
·
Place
a variety of foods on the plate
·
Choose snacks with a good mixture of vegetables, wholegrain and fruit.
·
Choose snacks low in dietary fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.
·
Monitor the amounts of sugar and salts present in snacks.
It’s also important to monitor the types of fat present in snacks.
You should avoid too much of fats that are present in:
·
Meats
·
Dairy
products
Fats that are safe to consume are unsaturated and polyunsaturated
fats. These are found in the following oils:
·
Olive
·
Peanut oil
·
Sunflower
·
Cottonseed
·
Soybean
Sugars like white sugar, brown sugar, honey, molasses, candy, sodas,
corn syrup, and jellies just add calories but don't provide the
required nutrients that your body needs.
Healthy nutritious snack foods
are all around us. All we need is the courage and motivation to stock
up our kitchen cupboards with the above types of healthy foods. There
are so much more healthy foods that are out there and many different
ways to prepare and consume them that are healthy, filling and
enjoyable. If you combine this with an a exciting and engaging weight
loss workout routine, you’ll find that losing weight and getting that
‘model’s body’ has never been easier or as much fun. Find out more at
